BACKGROUND Pearland EMS was spearheaded by the League of Women Voters and established by a group of volunteers in 1976. The group was originally staffed by a force of 20 volunteers, utilizing a second-hand ambulance (that was donated to the group by Niday Funeral Home). These visionary volunteers, along with the City Council, realized the need for better emergency care for the (then) 6000 residents of the community.
WHERE WE ARE TODAY Today, Pearland EMS consists of volunteers, part-time, and full time staff supported by the City of Pearland. Each day in Pearland there are 4 fully staffed ambulances strategically located at stations across the City. EMS serves a rapidly growing population that covers an area of approximately 80 square miles. Several hospitals are utilized for transport of the sick and injured, including: Memorial Hermann Hospital Southeast & Southwest Clear Lake Regional Hospital Bayshore Medical Center (Pasadena) St. John’s Hospital (Nassau Bay) St. Joseph’s Hospital All hospitals in the Texas Medical Center Pearland EMS provides care and transport to all who call for our services, regardless of ability to pay. Patient care is our primary concern.
